Bluestone is produced in the areas near Pennsylvania and New York, hence the name Pennsylvania Bluestone. The term is derived from a deep blue colored sandstone that is primarily found in the Catskills and Northeast Pennsylvania. As demand grew with bluestone's popularity as an architectural and building stone production spread and today bluestone is quarried by approximately 150 small quarries throughout the region.
